Graduates of Spurs Foundation degree course honoured at White Hart Lane

The first graduates of a university course run by Spurs were honoured with a special lunch at White Hart Lane yesterday.

The nine former students are the first graduates of a programme run by the Tottenham Hotspur Foundation in partnership with Middlesex University.

The graduates were given a short speech by Grant Cornwell MBE, chief executive of the foundation, congratulating them for their hard work and all of them were given an award from former Spurs Captain Ledley King.

The course offers young people who wouldn’t usually go to university the opportunity to get a degree with all of them completing a course in Applied Sport and Community Development which they did over two years.
Chris Blackwood, 22, from Tottenham who graduated from the course said: “This course has been amazing and it’s been great doing it with Spurs as they are such a big part of the community.

“I really enjoyed the whole experience and you were made to feel you were part of the club.”
The course focused on how to manage sports community sports projects and also trained the graduates in sport coaching, with some being offered a job at the Spurs Foundation.
Tottenham became the first Premier League club to run its own Foundation degree programme two years ago.

Many of the students who have been part of the programme will move on to full time employment and others will continue with their studies to top-up t a full degree at Middlesex University.
