Sean O'Driscoll to put faith in Danny Collins as skipper as search for new additions continues

SEAN O'Driscoll today said he would still like to sign a 'captain' style figure by the end of the transfer window.

But the Nottingham Forest manager also intimated Danny Collins will be given the armband in the short-term.
O'Driscoll still hopes to add two players to his squad, to take his number of summer additions to ten. And he hopes one of those will be somebody who can be a figurehead for the Reds.

But O'Driscoll also believes Collins can provide valuable leadership from the heart of defence.
"If I am totally honest, if I could sign a captain, I would. If I could sign that type of character, somebody who is used to it, it would be a great addition to the squad," said O'Driscoll.

"But I don't want to collect players for the sake of it. If it ends up being a signing in a position where we have already got two or three players, it might not be worth doing it.

"Alternatively, we try to develop a captain within the squad. Danny has the qualities. He is respected in the dressing room, he trains exceptionally well. He has the kudos about him."

O'Driscoll wants somebody in the team who knows when a tactical change is needed, without always needing instructions from the bench.

"We need somebody on the pitch who you are able to chat to; who can get messages across (to the rest of the team) for you," he said. "That is something we are trying to encourage in training.

"But we also want them to understand things, to solve things themselves. That is a better way of doing things than me just telling them what to do all the time. Some people find it difficult, others thrive on it. Hopefully Danny will thrive on it."

Collins himself says he hopes to provide some leadership to the team, whether he is made captain permanently or not.

"Playing at the back you see a lot of the play and I am quite vocal," said Collins. "The manager hasn't mentioned anything about having the armband on a permanent basis.

"He gave it me against Fleetwood, whether I have it permanently, we will have to see. If I was captain, it would not mean that I would be the only one who would shout and organise. At the end of the day, everyone should do that."
