Tottenham eye Arsenal transfer reject as Spanish press get cocky over Luka Modric

It's been widely reported, especially in Portugal, that if Spurs sell Luka Modric then Andre Villas Boas would like to replace him with Joao Moutinho but the Porto midfielder would come at a similar price tag to the Croatian and AS reported last week that Daniel Levy just isn't willing to spend that amount on one player.

Medo Kamara, 24 year old Partizan Belgrade midfielder, was put forward as a much cheaper alternative and now the London club are being linked with a 12m move for Yann M'Vila who seemed destined to be joining Arsenal this summer.

The National say that Rennes want rid of M'Vila and that his patchy form and off field issues have put off a host of clubs, including Arsene Wenger's side. There was even talk of medicals with Arsenal at one point and it seemed just a matter of time before he was unveiled as an Arsenal player but more off the field issues put that in doubt when he was arrested and spent the night in a police cell after being accused of punching a 17 year old.

However, he does have talent and if he can find a manager strong enough to get a grip on him then he has a better chance of fulfilling that. He's a bigger risk than Joao Moutinho but also a fraction of the price and if Levy is looking to pick up a bargain then it's easy to remove the Porto player from any realistic Tottenham move.

A bid has been made from a Premier League club and Rennes chairman Frederic de Saint-Sernin told Canal+ yesterday "He has a very concrete offer from England."

Even though Arsenal have rejected the opportunity to sign him this summer, if Alex Song moves to Barcelona then it could change their thinking on the issue.

Over in Spain the press are increasingly cocky about Real Madrid's ability to get Luka Modric for just 30m plus variables. Marca say that Tottenham must be bluffing because they've had no other bids for Modric and Real Madrid are the only interested party.

The offer will remain open for Spurs until the end of the transfer window but Real Madrid aren't too concerned if they don't sign the Croatian midfielder because they only want him at the right price.
