CHELSEA received a double dose of good news on the disciplinary front yesterday.
John Terry’s European ban was reduced by one
game on appeal and fellow defender Branislav Ivanovic will escape a
suspension following his red card in the Community Shield.
Terry
was sent off in last season’s Champions League semi-final second leg
against Barcelona at the Nou Camp for an off-the-ball clash with Alexis
Sanchez. The offence saw Terry handed an automatic three-match
suspension for violent conduct – the first game of which was the final
against Bayern Munich.
He
will still miss the European Super Cup clash against Atletico Madrid in
Monaco later this month but will be available for the opening Champions
League group game in September.
A
statement from UEFA read: “The UEFA appeals committee decided to
partially uphold Terry’s appeal against the three-match suspension
handed down to him on May 31.
“The third game of the ban has now been deferred for a probationary period of three years.”

Ivanovic,
who like Terry also missed the Champions League final because of a ban,
will be free to start the Premier League despite his ugly tackle on
Manchester City’s Aleksandar Kolarov.
The FA have changed the rules about red cards in pre-season friendlies.
