Robin Van Persie has seen his name dragged through the mud by the
Arsenal faithful in the last month, ever since his intention to leave
the club was public announced. However, say all you want, the current
captain of Arsenal has shown that he is still the consummate
professional as he continues to train hard with the team in their
preparations for the new season.
The Arsenal team is in Cologne, Germany for a training camp ahead of
the last pre-season friendly against the local side tomorrow. The Mirror
reports that Arsene Wenger is very impressed with the attitude of the
striker in training and could well feature in the match tomorrow. So
far, RVP has not played any of the pre-season matches as he was not with
the team that travelled to Asia. Besides RVP, Wenger is expected to
unleash his new acquisitions like Giroud, Podolski and Cazorla against
Cologne even if it is not for the entire match.
Van Persie’s attitude is commendable especially seeing how our
neighbours Tottenham Hotspurs are facing a torrid time with their
want-away midfielder Luka Modric. The sale of the Croatian to Real
Madrid is still dragging on and the player is fast becoming an outcast
at White Hart Lane. This is understandable given his utter lack of
professionalism in managing this transfer drama. The non-appearance at
training sessions and on the trip to US are clear signs of a player
lacking in professional and football ethics.
In another report,
it seems that Sir Alex Ferguson is under pressure to deliver a marquee
signing to appease the Old Trafford fans after missing out on most of
his transfer targets this summer. So far, Sir Alex has failed to sign
Eden Hazard (Chelsea) and Lucas Moura (PSG) two players whom we know
that the Scotsman clearly wanted at Old Trafford. However, he is still
in with a very good chance of landing his remaining target in RVP but it
will have to come with a substantial increase in transfer fees. Given
that the Manchester United IPO did not do so well in the US, this might
have an effect on what Sir Alex can offer for the Dutch international
